What is a sound recording?!
Under US copyright law, Sound Recordings are "works that
result from the fixation of a series of musical, spoken, or other
sounds, but not including the sounds accompanying a motion picture or
other audiovisual work," or essentially anything that has been
recorded to CD. They may be published or nonpublished.
Musical works that are not sound recordings are not in
the sound recordings category (see Performing
Arts page).
